Tell Village Voice Media to Stop Child Sex Trafficking on Backpage.com
Sex trafficking of girls and boys on Backpage.com, owned by Village Voice Media, is becoming a disturbing trend.
A Georgia man was arrested for pimping two 17-year-old girls around the Nashville area. Detectives responded to a suspicious ad on Backpage.com and drove to a motel. There, they found the teens and their 37-year-old pimp, as well as a laptop computer, likely used for the online advertising. Just four days prior to that, four people in Denver were arrested for forcing a teen girl into prostitution. They also advertised her sexual services, including semi-nude pictures, on Backpage. And last year, a South Dakota couple wasarrested for selling underage girls for sex on …. wait for it … Backpage.com yet again.
Village Voice Media has a moral responsibility to ensure that young girls and boys aren’t being abused in the commercial sex industry with help from their website.
Now, a rising movement of people of many faiths and backgrounds, motivated by their shared moral convictions, are taking action to end this practice.
Please join us in demanding that Village Voice Media - Backpage.com’s parent company - stop selling ads that others use to sell minors on Backpage.com by shutting down the Adult section of the website.

A thing to change:
On Wednesday, Apple shareholders will meet in California to celebrate their most profitable year in history. Apple is now the richest company in the world. Sign this petition to them asking them to make the iPhone 5 ethically. The petition is at 81,000 + signature. Let’s help get it to 90,000.
Reporters have documented cases of deadly explosions at iPad factories, and repeated instances of employees dying of exhaustion after working thirty to sixty hour shifts. In some of the factories Apple contracts with, so many employees have attempted suicide that management installed nets to prevent employees from dying while jumping off building ledges.

'I Was Drugged And Forced To Do Porn': Surviving The Sex Trade
The issue of “consent” is one that comes up time and time again when I discuss the porn industry. For those that watch porn, it is important to be aware that not all the “actors” intended to be in a porn when they walked/arrived/were forced on to the set.

Samantha moved to Los Angeles when she was 24. Her dream was to have a successful modeling career, and she began pursuing her goal by attending casting calls that were advertised in the area. In the midst of her job hunt, she was contacted by a “modeling agency” that was interested in representing her.
Once she arrived at the photo shoot, they gave her some drinks, asked her to take a few topless shots, and then asked for her identification so that they could make copies for her file.
Everything after that, she says, is a blur.
These men had drugged her drink, and then proceded to beat and sexually assaulted her. Over the next few months, they forced her to work in the porn industry, and withheld all of her identification unless she did exactly what they said. They also threatened to send the topless photos they had taken to her family and friends if she wasn’t cooperative.
